The incident occurred on a private bus that was coming from Sagar and going to Kundapur. Sudeep had boarded the bus at Kat Belthoor and was travelling on the footboard due to the bus being full of passengers. The bus stopped at Hemmady, allowing passengers to alight and board the bus. As the bus began to move again, it suddenly stopped to allow a woman who had not gotten off at Hemmady. During this moment, Sudeep lost his balance and fell below the front tire, as the bus only had a front door. Despite the driver’s efforts to save Sudeep, he died as the tire went over his hips.
The incident highlights the issue of students being forced to travel dangerously on the footboard of buses due to a lack of space inside. This is especially problematic for students in Hemmady and Tallur, where there are few buses available. The public has been requesting for additional government and private buses during morning hours to address this issue, as all educational institutions in Kundapur begin at the same time.
